Description
Great leaders start local. Through our Civic Leaders Fellowship Program, AACT helps students engage directly with public institutions, bringing government out of the textbooks and into real life. Our flagship initiative, the Torrance Civic Leaders Fellowship (TCLF), offers high school students firsthand access to civic leaders, public departments, and real decision-making proccesses. The goal is to empower students to lead where they live.
Torrance Civic Leaders Fellowship (TCLF)
This program invites selected students to meet with city officials, including the Mayor, councilmembers, and department heads. Participants explore how Torrance functions behind the scenes through focused sessions covering topics like public safety, budgeting, and infrastructure.
Mentorship & Civic Exposure
Each session features conversations with professionals in city government. Students are encouraged to ask questions, explore civic careers, and build connections that can shape their future paths in leadership and public service.
Hands-On Simulations
The program concludes with a mock City Council session, where students take on the roles of city officials and make policy decisions based on real-world scenarios. This interactive exercise sharpens public speaking skills and builds civic confidence.
